‘Lopes improve to 3-0on the week and 4-2 in PacWest
January 20, 2007 (Phoenix, AZ) -- Bryan Lee had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead five players in double figures as Grand Canyon defeated Chaminade University of Honolulu 86-72 in Pacific West Conference men's basketball action today at Antelope Gymnasium. Canyon improves to 9-6 overall and 4-2 in Pac West play. Chaminade falls to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Zack Whiting led all scorers with 30 points for Chaminade and he also handed out a game high 10 assists. Marko Kolaric had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
A strong defensive second half was key for Grand Canyon as the 'Lopes held the Silverswords to just 32.1% shooting from the floor (9-of-28). The 'Lopes prevailed despite poor free-throw shooting down the stretch as they hit only 11-of-19 in the second half (57.9%).
Grand Canyon also received great support off the bench as Devon Greene
(15 pts), Milee Karre (11) and David Gonzales (10) all scored in double figures. Grand Canyon reserves outscored Chaminade's support crew by a 38-11 margin.
Grand Canyon returns to Pac West play next Thursday at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California.
