‘Lopes Lose By 7
Phoenix, AZ—Grand Canyon University (0-1) was unable to open the season with a win on the road as they lost to Western New Mexico by a score of 82-75 this evening in Silver City. The Mustangs shot 48.5% in the first half while the 'Lopes struggled shooting only 29.0% from the field and went into the half down by 12 points. In the second half, the 'Lopes would find their rhythm and out score the Mustangs 50-45 but it wouldn't be enough as Western New Mexico would hold on for the win.
The 'Lopes were led by Bryan Lee (Sr/Antioch, CA/Deer Valley HS) who had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Richard Davis (Sr/Glendale, AZ/Glendale CC) also finished with 16 points but struggled from the field shooting 4-14 and 3-8 behind the arc. Two other 'Lopes finished in double figures with Rudy Bogan (Jr/Glendale, AZ/South Mountain CC) and Ladi Makinde (Jr/Phoenix, AZ/Scottsdale CC) chipping in 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Mustangs had five players score in double figures and was led by Trey Clarkson with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Casey Crevelone and Devin Stewart each had 11 points while Shannon Doctor and Jason Jackson had 10 points each.
The 'Lopes are back in action on Monday November 20 when they face UC San Diego in the Antelope Gymnasium for their home opener. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
