Peter Bethea packed as much success into two years of baseball at Grand Canyon as any student-athlete who ever played in a GCU uniform. His association with Antelope baseball produced the pinnacle of success as Canyon won 'back-to-back' NAIA National Championships in 1981 and 1982. As a catcher, Bethea was the quarterback of the 'Lopes solid defense and his solid hitting from the middle of the lineup helped produce consecutive 50 win seasons. Individually, Bethea saved his most outstanding efforts for the biggest stage. He remains the only player in NAIA history ro claim NAIA College World Series MVP honors in consecutive years. As the All-Tournament Catcher in both '81 and '82 series, he is set records for career NAIA CWS batting average (.511). An NAIA First Team All-American in 1982.
