Pat Smith-Evola personified tennis success at Grand Canyon during her two seasons. Smith-Evola came close to pulling off a very difficult 'double-double' in 1981 and 1982-this is, winning both the NAIA National Singles and Doubles titles in each of her two seasons. In 1981, she won the first ever NAIA Singles National Championship and then teamed with Karen Regman to capture the first ever Doubles title as well. In 1982, the Smith-Regman duo repeated as National Champions but Pat lost in the championship singles final. Her efforts were rewarded with selections as a First Team NAIA All-American honoree in each of her two seasons at Grand Canyon.
