While many GCU athletic teams have experienced National Championship success, only one team can lay claim to finishing their season without a loss. The 1958-59 Grand Canyon Men's Basketball team did just that, 20 consecutive victories in a 20 game schedule. No team in the over 60 year history of GCU athletics can match that feat. Dr. Dave Brazell guided the team that would "turn the corner" on establishing GCU as a championship quality small college basketball program. In their era, the 'Lopes were a scoring machine, averaging 82.4 points per game and outscored their opponents by an average of nearly 19 points per game.
