Mandy Gardner will enter her sixth season with the GCU softball team in 2021, as she was named assistant coach in June of 2018. Gardner served as a graduate assistant for three seasons, assisting the coaching staff in off-field operations as well as practices and on game day operations.Â
In 2020 junior pitcher Ryan Denhart was named All-WAC preseason pitcher of the year. Gardner's right-hander Denhart threw her first no-hitter of the season against South Dakota on March 11.Â
In her first season as an assistant, Gardner led the Lopes pitching staff to the top ERA in conference play at 1.85 and helped place the pair of junior Brianna Aguilar and sophomore transfer Ryan Denhart on the 2019 All-WAC second team. Gardner's right-hander and sophomore Yessie Morrison was in the circle for the Lopes upset of No. 1 Florida State on March 6 to solidify the first-ever victory over a national number one team in GCU Division I history.
Gardner joined the Lopes after a Division I playing career that included a two-year stay at Michigan in the Big Ten and three years at Maryland in the ACC/Big Ten. She was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a volunteer for the Special Olympics while pursuing her undergraduate degree.Â
Gardner earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Maryland in 2015. She is pursuing her master's degree in special education at GCU.Â
