Don Powers is in his fifth year as the women's golf head coach at Grand Canyon University.
Power guided the Lopes through their first year at the Division I level in 2013-14, which saw junior Charlotte Jaengkit collect 10 top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments, including claiming fifth at the Western Athletic Conference Championships. She also claimed three individual medalist honors throughout the season.
In 2012-13, he was named 2013 Pacific West Conference Coach of the Year after his squad won the inaugural conference tournament.
Powers led the women's golf program to a third-place finish in their first-ever trip to the NCAA Championships. The 'Lopes won three straight tournaments prior to hosting the West Regionals, and were led by Ashley Mooney who won an individual title at the Grand Canyon University Invitational and was the top-finisher for GCU at the NCAA Championships.
Powers has 25 years’ experience in tournament management, golf operations, golf course maintenance and instruction. He has been an instructor for Purtzer Golf in Phoenix and Fit Fore Golf in Colorado Springs, Colo. since 2008. Prior to that, he spent 16 years as the head golf professional at the North Oaks Golf Club in St. Paul, Minn., which was voted the “Best Private Club in Minnesota” by the Minnesota Golf Association in 2002. He also was director of golf at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park from 1989-92 and the director of sport at the Tucson National Resort and Spa in Tucson from 1984-89.
