PHOENIX, Ariz. –
Ten players have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Lopes in the fall of 2018, announced Wednesday by head coach Derek Leader
. The incoming class of 10 includes nine high school seniors and one junior transfer hailing from a collection of six states, including four players from Arizona, two from Oregon, and one apiece from Colorado, Washington, Nevada and California.
"We are expecting the 2018 class to have a massive impact in our team's success," head coach Derek Leader
said. "The new players will definitely complement our existing style and immediately fit right into our Lopes family."
Dani Babb (F / Centennial, Colo. / Arapahoe HS / Colorado United Soccer)
"Dani possesses that explosive speed that we're looking for up top. She will provide us the pace and ability to unbalance the opposition."
A senior at Arapahoe High School in Colorado, Babb is a forward for the Warriors. Babb was named First Team All-State in 2017 while earning the Most Valuable Player award in 2015, 2016 and 2017. She helped her team claim the state semi-final match in 2017 in the Colorado State Final. Babb was a 2016 and 2017 honor roll member, while also competing in basketball.
Babb plans to study business and sports marketing.
Carlie Bateman (F / Damascus, Ore. / Clackamas HS / Portland Thorns DA)
"We are very happy to add Carlie to our roster. She is a very intelligent forward that will provide us sophistication and scoring up top."
A senior at Clackamas High School, Bateman is a forward for the Cavaliers and a varsity starter as a sophomore, junior and senior. Bateman was also a junior team captain and a Mt. Hood Conference Honorable Mention selection in soccer. A Scholar Athlete award winner, Bateman also competed in track and field for four years and competed at state as a freshman and sophomore.
Bateman plans to major in nursing.
Perri Belzer (D / Camas, Wash. / Camas HS / Portland Thorns DA)
"Perri comes to us with many accolades from Washington and has an amazing ability to get up and down the field. Her aerobic capacity is very high for a defender and it will make her extremely dangerous on the flank."
A senior at Camas High School, Belzer is defensive back for the Papermakers. A four-year varsity starter at defender, Belzer is a senior team captain and the All-League Defensive Player of the Year. She earned Washington All-State 4A First Team designation for defensive players as well. Belzer also earned All-League First Team honors and All-League Scholar Athlete 4.0 honors as a senior while helping her team to championships in the GSHL 4A League, WA District 4 and a third-place finish at the WIAA State Tournament. As a junior, Belzer earned All-League Second Team honors, All-League Scholar Athlete 4.0 accolades and the WIAA State Tournament Sportsmanship Award. Belzer and her team earned the Max Preps National High School No. 1 rank en route to the 2016 WIAA 4A State Championship, as she was part of a defensive line that allowed just two goals in 22 games throughout the season.
Belzer plans to study biology.
Remmi Deutsch (F / Gilbert, Ariz. / Perry HS / AZ Arsenal SC)
"Remmi adds an extremely quick and dynamic edge to our team. She has the ability to play wide or central and her speed and talent will be a welcome addition to our squad."
A senior at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, Deutsch is a forward and left midfielder. An Esmark All-American honoree and senior team captain, Deutsch is a three-year varsity member and starter for Perry. She was an All-Division Honorable Mention and All-Section Second Team recipient as a sophomore and an All-Region Honorable Mention as a junior, as well as the Offensive Impact Player of the Year. Deutsch earned the Scholar-Athlete award three years in a row beginning in 2014. As a junior, she tallied 14 goals and 11 assists.
Deutsch plans to major in graphic design and advertising.
Jaycee Iranshad (F / Damascus, Ore. / Clackamas HS / Crossfire United ECNL)
"Athletic and versatile, Jaycee will be able to come in and make an immediate and dynamic impact in our attack. She definitely possesses the ability to score."
A senior at Clackamas High School, Iranshad is a forward for the Cavaliers and a three-year starter and four-year letter winner. Iranshad has tallied 30 goals and 17 assists in her three-year career, while being named All-League and earning the Golden Boot Award as a junior and senior. As a senior team captain and MVP, Iranshad is a member of the National Honor Society. She also is a four-year varsity letter winner in track and a state track meet qualifier.
Iranshad plans to major in exercise science.
Noah Johnson (MF / Las Vegas, Nev. / Palo Verde HS / Heat FC ECNL)
"Noah possesses a very strong personality and the characteristic traits that we are looking for at GCU. She is sure to be a future defensive leader of our team."
A senior at Palo Verde High School, Johnson is a center midfielder and defender for the Panthers. A four-year varsity starter and white letter recipient, Johnson was part of a team that won the U.S. Club National Championship in 2016. As a junior, she was named Nevada State Honorable Mention and State Final Runner-Up. As a senior, Johnson earned Nevada All-Region and All-Conference accolades while helping her team to the state quarterfinal as a team captain. Johnson is a four-year Scholar Athlete award winner and honor roll member.
Johnson plans to major in communication.
Kayla King (GK / Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird HS / Excel Soccer Academy)
"We are very excited to add an athletic and explosive goalkeeper to our team. We can't wait to see her prove herself in the fall."
A senior at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix, King is a goalkeeper for the Chiefs. A four-year varsity starter and varsity team captain, King was named All-Region First Team and All-Conference First Team as a junior after leading her team to the Arizona 4A Girls Soccer State Championship. As a freshman, she earned All-Regional Honorable Mention as well.
King plans to major in criminal justice.
Andrea Martinez (F / Sacramento, Calif. / Folsom Lake JC / San Juan ECNL)
"Providing us maturity and leadership, along with the ability to score goals, we are thrilled to add Andrea to our roster. She has the ability to score with both feet and we look forward to her addition to the team."
A junior transfer from Folsom Lake Junior College, Martinez is a forward from Sacramento. In high school at Christian Brothers, Martinez was a four-year varsity starter and earned All-League accolades in 2014 and 2015 and MVP Offensive Player in 2014 and 2015. At Folsom Lake, Martinez was the 2015 Bay Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. She earned United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III First Team All-American honors in 2017 after being named to the All-West Region First Team. Martinez was a 2017 Big 8 All-Conference selection as well.
Martinez plans to get her degree in communication.
Logan Van Dine (D / Chandler, Ariz. / Perry HS / SC del Sol DA)
"Logan's solid defensive presence and composure will allow her to play anywhere on our backline or even at the holding midfield spot. She is good both in the air and playing out of the back. She will be a great team player."
A senior at Perry High School, Van Dine is an outside defender and holding midfielder for the Pumas. A three-year varsity starter and senior team captain, Van Dine is a 2016-17 All-Region Second Team selection and a 2015-16 Chandler Unified School District First Team member. She was a two-time Arizona All-Academic Girls Soccer Honorable Mention selection as well. From 2015-present, Van Dine has played in 61 games and tallied 33 total points from six goals and 21 assists.
Van Dine plans to major in marketing.
Hayden Wallace (GK / Glendale, Ariz. / Deer Valley HS / Sereno SC)
"Hayden is another local player that will be joining us this fall. She possesses good communication and shot stopping abilities and we look forward to her joining the team."
Wallace is a senior at Deer Valley High School and is a goalkeeper for the Skyhawks. A two-year team captain and MVP as a junior, Wallace was ranked the No. 1 player in the Desert West Valley Region and fourth in the 5A Conference for saves as a junior. She was also a Max Preps Desert West Region Defensive Player of the Year, an AIA 5A All-Conference First Team member and the AIA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. Wallace earned Max Preps/NSCAA High School State Player of the Week as a sophomore as well, and competed in soccer as well as track and field.
Wallace plans to get a degree in psychology.
