GCU Gets 17 On MIVA All-Academic Team

Grand Canyon had a league-high 17 members selected to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic team, released by the league office today.
The Antelopes also boast two of the four players that earned 4.0 GPAs, sophomore setter Jared Goldberg and freshman middle blocker Christian Ward.
The MIVA recognized 101 student-athletes from the eight conference schools. To qualify, student-athletes had to earn at least a career 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale at their respective institutions.
GCU sophomore middle blocker Ryan Mather and junior Ben Ponnet made both the all-MIVA team and all-MIVA academic team.
“I’m extremely proud of the work our guys put in on the court -- getting our first winning season and first tournament win – and off the court with what they’ve done in the classroom,” said GCU coach Jeremy Price. “To have 17 members on the team shows we can be successful on the court and in the classroom.
“I’m particularly proud of Christian Ward and Jared Goldberg for being two of the four 4.0 students and Ryan Mather and Ben Ponnet for making All-MIVA both on the court and in the classroom.”
