Cullen Mosher and Jared “Puna” Kaniho are teammates on the top boys’ high school volleyball team in Hawai’i. They will be college teammates next season at Grand Canyon University.
GCU coach Jeremy Price has announced the signings of Mosher, an outside hitter, and Kahino, a setter, for the 2013-14 campaign.
“We’re very excited to get Puna and Cullen,” said Price. “They’ve played together for five years and we’re excited that they will play their collegiate careers together.
“Puna is one of the best setters in Hawai’i and he’ll make a smooth transition into the college game. Cullen is a very solid all-around volleyball player.”
The pair play for Kamehameha High School, the No. 1 ranked team in Hawai’i.
A 6-2 setter, Kaniho averages 10 assists per set. He and Mosher were on the 2011 Hawai’i High Schools Division I state championship team.
“I feel glad in making the decision to commit to GCU,” said Kaniho. “The environment is very competitive in both athletics and academics, and everyone there is supportive and wants you to do your best. I know that GCU has everything I will need to succeed in my college career."
Mosher was a Honolulu Star Advertiser First Team All-State selection as an outside hitter and a team captain. He was selected to the Aloha Region Boys National Youth High Performance Team.
“I'm very grateful to be able to attend GCU,” said Mosher. “I look forward to a wonderful college experience. I want to thank all of my coaches for helping me achieve this dream; and thank my family for all their support.”
