LAWRENCE, Kan. – Midway through the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Lopes lead all teams with 26 points on the women's side and 24 points on the men's side. GCU used podium sweeps of both multi events to secure the majority of their points and to end day two with the lead on both sides for the first time since joining the WAC.

Ashley Krawczuk was able to duplicate her indoor pentathlon title with a school record,
Sydney Madrid and
Symone Wright-Flowers, in their first heptathlon ever, showed their true competitive spirits all the way through the two day event.

Timmy Johnson gutted through the event with some inspirational performances."
Krawczuk scored a new school record 4,672 points in the heptathlon, winning two of the seven events. Madrid finished in second place with a PR of 4,530 points, and Wright-Flowers scored 4,393 points in her first ever heptathlon.
Carpenter repeated as the WAC decathlon champion, scoring 6,486 points and winning four events and finishing tied for first in a fifth event. Turner finished in second with 6,184 points, two event wins and tied for first in a third event. Johnson scored 6,002 points to finish third, while winning the pole vault with a 4.20-meter jump.
The longest race in collegiate track wrapped up the night with the men's and women's 10,000-meter race. The school record holder,
Mariah Montoya was the only GCU entry in the event and the senior finished in seventh with a time just over 37 minutes.
