SAN DIEGO – Day 1 of the Aztec Invitational saw two more GCU records fall on both the track and in the field. The Lopes are competing in San Diego at the 39th Annual Aztec invitational and athletes Nyomi Mosley and Sam Proctor set new team-best marks.
Graduate student Mosley broke the school record in the Hammer throw with a toss of 53.27 meters. With the throw, she also set the WAC conference lead in the event. Mosley placed fourth in the Hammer with her toss. She also earned fifth place in the discus throw with a distance of 43.17 meters.
Proctor took down the GCU outdoor school record in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:35.05. He placed third in the run, following two athletes from Utah Valley.
Fellow thrower Sasha-Gaye Marston placed well at the invite in the shot put. She heaved a throw of 14.19 meters to place third behind two throwers from BYU. Marston also placed ninth in the Hammer throw with a distance of 47.57 meters.
Courtney Logan also placed in the shot put, earning fifth with a throw of 13.00 meters. Logan placed seventh in the discus as she threw 41.39 meters.
The Lopes will conclude competition at the Aztec Invite tomorrow.
