PHOENIX – The GCU women's tennis team will honor four athletes tomorrow at Senior Day against Idaho State. Tatum Prudhomme, Alexandra Petrzalkova, Marie Deleval and Susan Baklini have helped grow the tennis program over the past four years and will play in the last home match of their careers at 11 a.m. at the new on-campus GCU Tennis Facility.
"We have some special seniors that we will be watching play their final home match," head coach Greg Prudhomme noted. "There are four seniors so it's special to have that many. Two in particular, Tatum [Prudhomme] and Sasha [Petrzalkova], have given their full college tennis careers to GCU's provisional membership without postseason play. We definitely owe them a lot of gratitude to them."
Tatum Prudhomme rounds out her stellar career as the winningest GCU athlete in Division I play. In combined singles and doubles play, she has over 120 victories. She's earned WAC First Team singles and doubles every year that she has been on the team and was also a GCU Student Athlete of the Month.
Tatum is also the daughter of Coach Greg Prudhomme. He stated "It's a special moment to see my daughter play her last home match for GCU."
Last season, Petrzalkova earned WAC First team honors in doubles play. She has consistently been the No. 2 singles player for GCU and has won her last two singles WAC matches. Along with Prudhomme, Petrzalkova has spent all four years at Grand Canyon.
Deleval transferred from Chesnut Hill and has been a very versatile player for GCU. Prudhomme added that she could play when and where she was needed in singles and doubles. This season, Deleval has played at No. 6 singles and has a 1-1 record in that slot.
"Three seniors [Prudhomme, Petrzalkova, and Deleval] were with us when we won our first conference regular season championship," Prudhomme stated. "It's special to send off our seniors when they were part of our first DI conference championship."
Baklini was also a transfer, from the University of New Mexico two seasons ago, and had experience playing at the NCAA prior to GCU. She earned WAC First Team in doubles last season and has had big wins against ranked opponents. Coach Prudhomme commented that she has done nothing but good things at GCU.
"These girls have been great on and off the court, doing community service and performing in the classroom," Prudhomme praised. "The seniors are a part of the entire team earning a high GPA. It's definitely a special group. They will certainly be missed. They've left the GCU Tennis program a better place for having been here."
