Grand Canyon University Athletics, in conjunction with the Western Athletic Conference, announced the 2017 GCU Baseball broadcast schedule on Friday. For the first time ever, all 23 home games will be available via live video broadcast through
GCU.tv. Additionally, two games will be televised on CW6 and eight more will be simulcast on the WAC Digital Network.
"We're very excited about the GCU.tv live stream," head coach
Andy Stankiewicz said. "Our recruits and our fans can just jump on a computer and watch our guys play. That's exciting. Never before has this been available to our families and our fans and our recruits. This is a big deal for us."
A pair of key matchups will be broadcast in the Phoenix metro area on CW6.
Barry Buetel (play-by-play),
Mike Rooney (analysis) and
Kate Longworth (reporter) will be on hand to call the action. The games set to air on CW6 include a pair of opponents from the 2016 College World Series field, with an opening-weekend matchup vs. Oklahoma State on Saturday, Feb. 18 and a Tuesday, April 11 tilt with in-state opponent Arizona. Both games broadcast on CW6 will also be streamed online on GCU.tv, ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN app.
"We're excited about the two games with the TV crew," Stankiewicz said. "Two big games. The opening series against Oklahoma State and then we play U of A here as well."
The remainder of the 2017 schedule will be covered on GCU.tv, the university's multimedia platform in its first year streaming all athletic events. Although a new medium, a familiar voice will return to call all the action, with
Michael Potter handling the play-by-play duties for his seventh season calling GCU Baseball. Potter will be joined by a member of the GCU.tv student production crew. The baseball production will feature a multi-angle broadcast to provide the best coverage throughout Brazell Stadium.
The Lopes will also play eight games on the WAC Digital Network in 2017, featuring six games from Brazell Stadium and two on the road at Chicago State and New Mexico State. Games airing on the WAC Digital Network are available free of charge at
www.wacsports.com/live.
Coverage of GCU's 31 games on the road will be determined by the host school with broadcasting details to be constantly updated on GCULopes.com.
