EVANSTON, ILL. – The Grand Canyon University men's and women's swimming and diving teams delivered another set of solid performances on Day Two of the Northwestern TYR Invitational, with both holding steady in third place.
On the women's side, Northwestern still claims the number one spot with Michigan State trailing in second and GCU in third with a total of 463 points. On the men's side, Michigan State remains in first while Northwestern is close behind, followed by GCU with 529.5 points.
Estela Davis Ortiz had another outstanding performance, earning two NCAA "B" cut time in the 100-yard backstroke (54.49) and 400-yard IM (4:19.10).
Pietro Hufnagel Toscani led the Lopes' diving team with a second place finish and score of 318.30 on the 3-meter.
Daniil Antipov defended his pool record in the 100-yard butterfly with a first place finish and an NCAA "B" cut time of 47.70.
Mark Nikolaev's time of 46.05 in the 100-yard backstroke broke his previous pool record set on Nov. 21, 2015 and was an NCAA "B" cut.
Trent Trump was a close second in the event with a time of 49.35.
