With a strong fall season under their belts, the GCU Lopes men's golf team has announced the addition of a trio of impact freshmen for the fall of 2017. Noah Robinson (Glendale, Ariz.), Max Sekulic (Rycroft, Alberta, Canada) and Brian Seo (Phoenix, Ariz.) will join the Lopes next season.
Â
"We are very excited to add three new freshmen," said head coach
Mark Mueller. "All three of these young men have the qualities we want in student-athletes here at GCU. They are students first and athletes second. All three have great attitudes and work very hard."
Â
Sekulic has had a decorated junior career in Canada. He was one of four golfers selected to play on the 2017 Canadian Men's Developmental squad. Some of his notable finishes include winning the PGA Alberta Junior Masters, finishing sixth at the Alberta Amateur, finishing runner-up at the MJT International Series and fourth at the CJGA Mizuno Championship.
Â
"Max is from Rycroft, Alberta and he has a certain swag to him," said Mueller. "He grew up on a farm, which has given him a tough mentality and a great work ethic. He was just named to the Canadian developmental team which is a very big honor."
Â
Robinson comes to GCU after winning the 2016 DI boys high school state championship, claiming medalist honors with a -9 total, winning by three strokes at GCU Golf Course. He's had several top finishes including the AJGA Ping Phoenix Junior, the 2016 Thunderbird Inv., eighth at the Arizona stroke play championship and third at the 2015 Charlie Beljan Inv. He is a four-time region champ and had an 18-hole scoring average of 70.5 in 2016.
Â
"Noah is an Arizona kid and he is just starting to reach his full potential," said Mueller. "He is a great young man with an even better attitude.  Noah just won the state high school championship by three strokes at the GCU golf course and we could not be more proud to say the AZ state champ is coming to GCU."
Â
Seo has also had numerous awards coming up the junior ranks. He played for the 2016 DI state champion and qualified for the 2016 US Jr. Amateur. He finished fourth at the AJGA Ping Phoenix Junior at ASU Karsten and is a 2016 Hogan Cup Arizona Team Member. Additionally, Seo was named the JGAA Player of the Year in 2015.
Â
"Brian is currently ranked 109th in the country on the junior golf scoreboard and 69th in his graduating class," said Mueller. "He is a very accomplished player in his own right. I look forward to seeing how his game improves and seeing how good he can become.
Â
"I expect all three of these incoming freshmen to keep getting better this winter and throughout the summer," said Mueller. "I look forward to them raising the bar for this team as we continue to get better each and every day as a program."
Â
The Lopes just finished an impressive fall season, capturing two team titles, two individual titles and a runner-up team finish. In the process, the Lopes never finished behind a Western Athletic Conference opponent, going 6-0 against WAC members.Â
