Grand Canyon University senior outfielder
Billy Schroeder (Muskego,WI, Muskego (Indian Hills JC)) was the 47th round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday.
Schroeder is the second GCU player to be chosen in as many days. On Tuesday, pitcher
Jeff Urlaub (Scottsdale, AZ, Horizon (Arizona State) was picked in the 30th round by the Oakland Athletics.
Schroeder hit .297 in 2010, his second season in a GCU uniform. A transfer from Indian Hills Junior College, Schroeder came to Canyon in 2009.
This past season, the right-handed hitting outfielder from Muskego, Wisc. had a .429 on-base percentage to go with eight doubles, one triple and 18 RBIs. He had a six-game hitting streak and stole two bases. He had five multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games.
In 2009, he had a pair of home run and hit .261 with 14 RBIs.
"I'm excited for Billy," said GCU skipper Dave Stapleton. "He needs to take advantage of this opportunity and run with it as far as he can. I'm excited for him and excited for our program."
Schroeder's father, Bill Schroeder, played eight seasons in the major leagues with the Brewers and Angels.
